Posted Oct 16th 2009 8:54AM by Sam Abuelsamid

Readers of this site are probably quite familiar with the names of Felix Kramer and Tony Posawatz. Kramer is the founder of the California Cars Institute (CalCars) and major proponent of plug-in vehicles. Posawatz is the vehicle line director for the Chevrolet Volt and has been part of the team since almost day one. Both Kramer and Posawatz will be speaking at the Business of Plugging In conference in Detroit next week. They will be part of a panel on Wednesday October 21 titled "The Consumer: Who, When and Why?"
Since most of you won't be there, you can pose your own questions to Posawatz and Kramer today at

Ask him why the volt weighs over 4000 lb empty.

I don't want to sound snarky, but the whole point is that you can ask these sort of questions yourself. Give it a try.

Tantar, I have seen the weight at 3300 pounds, at 3400 pounds and another one, where Weber was talking off the cuff, at 3680 pounds, never seen one that came in over 4000 pounds. Do you have any type of a cite?
Even if it did weigh 4000 pounds, if it gets 40 miles AER, who cares what it weighs? It looks like it will get 40 miles AER in charge depleting mode and between 40 and 50 mpg in charge sustaining mode, that sounds like a game changing automobile for people that don't drive more than 15,000 miles a year. If you drive 20,000 miles a year, buy something else.
