Further cementing its worldwide distribution plans, Fisker Automotive CEO Henrik Fisker said today that his company has selected "a large distributor" for European sales of its Karma plug-in hybrid and is also investigating a similar deal with "several importers" in China. The unnamed dealer has over 100 dealerships in Europe, Fisker told Reuters, adding that the distributor would be named soon, possibly tomorrow at the Zurich Auto Show. For more on Fisker's dealership strategy, especially in comparison to Tesla's, read this.
Fisker's future plans include making the $87,000 Karma in Finland and selling about 15,000 a year, half in the U.S. and half in other markets. The first Karmas should be delivered by mid-2010. The company recently purchased an unused GM plant in Delaware to build their next model, a $39,000 PHEV. The company also announced that a deal with the UAW regarding that plant should be in place before the end of the year. Thanks to Roy B. for the tip!

I think it is really good from a company that hasn't been producing cars for very long and also doing all this through an economic crisis.

let me guess, now you own shares of Fisker...
letstakeawalk 6:10PM (11/03/2009)
Paul
You've accused me of being an industry shill all along... Of course I'm invested in green technologies - although Fisker itself is privately held (you know, Al Gore and Colin Powell and all those guys).
I challenge more readers of ABG to put their money where their mouth is - invest in BEVs, PHEVs, FCVs, whatever you like.

So you own stock in Quantum Technologies then?
letstakeawalk 7:41PM (11/03/2009)
Yes. I've said I have a small investment in QTWW several times before. Should I say this every time I comment regarding Fisker in the future?

100 dealers is very little, who could they be talking about?

I don't know how 100 dealerships compares to the networks that Lamborghini or Maserati have, but it seems possible that Fisker could be partnered with a specific dealership holding company, rather than a specific brand.
Maybe?
Cougs 10:08AM (11/04/2009)
Yes, I could see them teaming with a group like AutoNation or Penske to have them convert existing dealership space for brands like Saturn or Pontiac into Fisker specific dealerships. It would also help because they will have existing service bays, etc.

Fisker is doing it right, great strategy, great product.
Well except for these horrendous interiors perhaps.

It would be great if Fisker NINA was a truly innovative plug-in like this Ford S-Max with micro-turbine range-extender ...

Yes. Capstone's micro-turbine is a great little device. It can be a range-extender, and it can also be used for stationary power generation.

It's a great looking car and I hope they take a lot of business from bmw, audi, ferrari, etc in the high end car market. Practical efficient and sporty. Much lower gas usage and low co2 will help it sell well in europe.
I cant afford one at $87k, but it will be interesting to see what they can do for half that with their next car. I hope it is a hatch that looks & performs better than the leaf.
I do not own stock in fisker.

I'm happy they are finding a way to distrube the car but I fear them working with the UAW. I hope I'm wrong but I just see them asking a cancer to come on in.

I too share your worries about unions. It's obviously a gamble in a bid to establish a strong U.S manufacturing base as soon as possible. 18$Million for a plant with experienced employees capable of producing 10,000 cars + a year is a pretty good deal.
Cougs 10:08AM (11/04/2009)
